You’re Making it Too Big!

If you’ve been putting off doing something for a while now—agonizing over it—I can bet it’s not as big as you’ve made it out to be.

You want to lose weight?

Maybe you’re thinking this requires going to the gym an hour a day and wiping out your entire pantry.

That’s too big.

You want to be more present at home?

Maybe you’re thinking this requires shutting off your phone the second you get home and not turning it back on until you head out the door the next morning.

That’s too big.

You want to add more joy into your life?

Maybe you’re thinking this requires going to ALL the social events and having ALL the fun ALL the time.

That’s too big. *shudder*

You want to have less stress in your life?

Maybe you believe the only way to do this is by meditating 30 minutes a day and spending all day Sunday recharging.

That’s too big.

SMALL. STEPS.

Manageable steps.

Doable steps.

Put your sneakers on first thing in the morning 3x a week and do SOMETHING for five minutes. This will help build the habit BEFORE tackling the bigger goals.

Leave your phone in another room during dinner, and take your time eating with your family.

Choose one event/outing per month/quarter that’s social, and also find a few ways to spark joy in a smaller group setting, or alone. (Something in nature is a fan favorite.)

Try guided meditation for five minutes a few times a week. Or set aside a few minutes every morning for some deep breathing.

You’re making it WAAAYYYYY bigger in your mind than it ever is in real life.

And you’re being hard on yourself in the process.

Losing weight/getting healthy TAKES TIME.

De-stressing TAKES TIME.

Being more present TAKES TIME.

Learning to seek out joy TAKES TIME.

And you do have the time for what truly matters, even if the story in your head says otherwise.

You deserve to live your best life.
